The scent of incense mingled with river water as I gazed out over the Ganges, its glassy surface reflecting the setting sun. I had just completed another invigorating day leading yoga classes at my studio nestled in the Himalayan foothills. Looking back, I never could have imagined I’d find myself living out my dharma as a yoga teacher in India’s yoga capital of Rishikesh.

After college, I felt directionless and lacking purpose. On a whim, I booked a solo trip to India to “find myself.” Arriving in Rishikesh, I was instantly captivated by its tranquil energy. I started taking yoga classes on riverfront ashrams and was amazed by yoga’s power to quell my anxiety. I befriended my teachers and discovered they left everything behind to follow their passion. Inspired, I made the life-changing decision to pursue yoga teacher training in India.

At first, I questioned if I had made a rash choice. But training connected me with my true spirit in profound ways. I gained clarity I wanted to teach yoga full-time, drawn to helping others discover yoga’s gifts. After I completed my certification, my teacher helped me secure a teaching role at a new studio in town.

Now, as I reflect on the mats stacked against the studio walls, I feel deeply fulfilled in my dharma as a teacher. Beyond sharing physical postures, I help students tune out distraction, turn inward, and align with their highest truth. Watching students leave class with a spring in their step and spark in their eyes tells me I’m exactly where I need to be. Rishikesh brought me home to my purpose - and I’m only just beginning this soul-enriching journey.
