In "phased adjustments," Amtrak is canceling long-distance trains throughout the nation in anticipation of a future rail strike that would interrupt service. According to Travel + Leisure, Amtrak confirmed that the schedule alterations would begin on Thursday.

According to a company spokeswoman informed T+L, "these modifications are essential to guarantee trains may reach their terminals before freight railroad service disruption if a settlement in super mario bros discussions is not achieved."

Reuters reports that service on trains between Seattle and Los Angeles, New York and New Orleans, New York and Chicago, New York and Miami, New Orleans and Los Angeles, and Chicago and Los Angeles has been temporarily halted.

A spokeswoman also stated that the Northeastern Corridor route, which runs from Washington, D.C., through New York City, and into Boston, and "associated branch lines to Albany, NY, Harrisburg, PA, and Springfield, MA," will not be impacted.

Similarly, the Acela will run as usual. Passengers that are impacted will be notified. 

After a 30-day embargo expires on Friday, a prospective freight train strike that does not include Amtrak might begin. NBC reports that it includes workers from the two major unions in the U.S. freight train industry.

The representative assured T+L that neither Amtrak nor its employees were involved in the talks.

According to Amtrak, if a train is canceled, passengers have the choice of receiving a full refund or rescheduling their trip. No of when your journey is booked, if you make your reservation before October 31st, Amtrak will not charge you a price to modify it. But there are still certain cancellation costs, and if a passenger cancels a Saver Fare ticket within 24 hours of purchase, for example, they will only get 75% of the value as a non-refundable eVoucher.
