Detuned APFC Panels
Detuned APFC Panels play an important role when the system has more non-linear loads. CFL is one example of the non-linear
the load which generates harmonics & distorts the voltage waveform. Similarly, other loads which generate harmonics include UPS due to its rectifier circuit.
The Detuned APFC Panel comprises a capacitor connected in series of a suitable reactors. The rectifier impedance & capacitor impedances are selected in a fashion that the capacitor doesn’t tune to the frequencies of harmonics generated by loads & hence its life is increased. In the case of a normal APFC panel, chances are there that capacitors tune to the load harmonic frequencies & hence the life of the capacitors reduces.
